This was the question we posted on Facebook the other day and the results were interesting. ย Some said no way, but many admitted that yes, they would, in fact, get fired for the effort theyโ€™re putting in.

And that was our point.

You see, too many Part Time Marketers (especially those with another income source like a Job) treat their business with a lack of focus and energy that would get them FIRED if this was, in fact, a traditional job.

For exampleโ€ฆ

Not showing up for your business when you planned to.

Getting sidetracked on social media and not getting your work done.

Taking extended time away from your business without explanation.

We’re betting all of these things would get your FIRED from your current job (if you have one) or a past job if youโ€™re no longer working.

You get our point?

Weโ€™ve said this before and weโ€™ll say it againโ€ฆ

Forget all the โ€œtreat your business like a businessโ€ stuff.




Here are a few things you can do:

  1. Set hours for your business and SHOW UP!

The number of hours you set aside for your business each week doesnโ€™t matter nearly as much as showing up when you say you will.

  1. Put deadlines on your business projects.

Break down your big projects into bite-size chunks and set deadlines. Then meet those deadlines! ย When you do, reward yourself. When you donโ€™t, figure out why not โ€” be honest!

  1. ย Get others involved

Share the information in #1 and #2 with your family, friends, or an accountability partner. Make sure they know what you plan to do so they can help hold you to it. Donโ€™t rely on self-monitoring here.

  1. ย Make a plan so you donโ€™t waste time.

Make sure you understand exactly what the best use of your time is, then put together a work plan that puts those things first.

  1. ย Never ever ever ever (ever) sit down at your computer and think, โ€œWhat should I do today?โ€. ย 

If you follow step 4, this shouldnโ€™t happen, but youโ€™d be surprised how many Part Timers we talk to who fall into this trap. ย ย The result is a MONUMENTAL waste of valuable time.

Bottom line?

Be your best employee.

  • Start working when you said you would.
  • Hit your deadlines.
  • Make a solid plan of action.
  • Donโ€™t make excuses.
  • Donโ€™t lie to yourself (or others) to get out of not doing your job.
